You have to use the materials created for the monitor you cannot use a product like Windex cuz it strips the monitor of something. I saw this on The ScreenSavers.
So go to BestBuy and ask for monitor wipes.

go to office depot or staples and get a monitor cleaner.
They sell them for about 5-10 bucks and they won't kill your screen.

Safest way with to unplug it and use a lint free cloth to clean it. Don't press down very hard. If you have to use a solvent (like Windex) then spray a little on the cloth, not the monitor and wipe clean.

Static free wipes, I wouldn't worry, monitors are pretty durable.

Get Endust or something similar and a dry cloth. I always use Endust myself. For some things, name brand is better.

If it is an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) they sell special cloths for them. Don't spray anything onto a cloth & then wipe it down. Or spray anything directly on it (which I'm sure you wouldn't do . . . )

wipe the monitor with the towel.

I've used Windex and 409, and water, and anti-static computer cleaner.

Do not use windex or any other regular cleaning product as this can strip some of the coatings off of the screen. Your best bet is to buy specific cleaner for LCD Screens/TV's. You can find this at BestBuy. I use the Monster cleaner and Monster cloth. They have this at BestBuy and it works great. It actually cleans my regular TV screen quite well too. The cloth that comes with this is rather large and is machine washable which is great as the cleaner will last a long time.

Turn it off first, Then wipe it down with a very damp rag. Lightly spray window cleaner on a paper towel and hit up the screen for all your dirt and microorganisms that you so delicately put there.

Any PC store or office place like staples will have screen wipes. Any other chemicals can harm the screen. if you dont want to buy anything…warm water on a very soft cloth will work.

Don't use chemicals unless they are specifically designed for computers. Otherwise you can mess it up.
Personally I haven't bought those wipes; I just use a damp paper towel or other cloth.

Use a damp lint free cloth. You want to remove ALL the water so it won't drip into your computer. So only use a little water on the cloth and wipe it dry. You want to avoid using something like Windex because that will degrade the plastic over time and add a haze to your screen.
Before you by one of those expensive screen cleaning products check the ingredients list and see if you can't make something similar; like a diluted alcohol solution.

★★ CLEAN LCD SCREENS ★★
◙ Lightly spray windex on a really soft cloth and wipe the screen. Do not spray directly on the screen.
◙ Be very careful not to press very hard or you'll damage areas of the screen.
◙ You can buy a monitor protector to place over your screen. Another way is to cut out a piece of clear plexiglass slightly larger than the screen area and attach the plexiglass to the monitor with double-faced tape. This will keep people from pokiung the screen with their fingers and spraying the screen when they cough or sneeze.

Get some "Bissell" Glass & Multi -Surface Cleaner. It comes in an orange, spray can. It's better than "Windex," because it sprays "Foam," instead of liquid, and does not run. It's very good, and it's inexpensive. You can spray it– directly on the screen, or spray it on a soft cloth. Also, works well on the keypad.

If your Flat Screen is a CRT like mine then you can use a bit of glass cleaner on a piece of tissue paper and wipe the dust of softly.
If you are talking about a flatscreen LCD, then just use a tissue.
