it goes to 85 if u put a level lower resulution

  3. ShokaLion Says:

    Ah that’s …
Ah that’s unfortunate. The 75 hz setting still gives you problems? Or can you not put it above 60.

  4. taltigolt Says:

    the brand for my …
the brand for my monitor is IBM p275 and goes up to 2048×1536@75Hz in resulution so its a extreme like monitor

maybe the old ati card wont support higher refresh rate

bealive me i tryed that im in a replacement pc borrowed from my dad bad parts i tryed it all teh option is greyed

  6. ShokaLion Says:

    You’re using …
You’re using Windows 7? As in the brand new, BETA Windows 7?

I’d have thought there would be some way to alter refresh rate in there. I mean heck, if you can do it on XP surely you can with Windows 7.

Refresh rate is nothing to do with the graphic card driver. Yes, the setting is found in the graphic card driver as well, but you should be able to alter it in the display/monitor settings in Control Panel. uming Windows 7 still has something as old fashioned as a control panel.

    how come my IBM …
how come my IBM p275 dont give true black

i cannot set mine since i use windows 7 and poor drivers for the old ati graphics card i have a replacemtn pc untill i get my new

    my monitor is IBM P275

  10. ShokaLion Says:

    Oh and talking …
Oh and talking about the flicker, that’s simply because most people who used/use a CRT never bother to change the refresh rate from 60hz, which does cause flicker, and gives me a headache.

My CRT though, is set at 85hz, which is as clear and flicker free as LCD any day.

It made me smile that you were talking about plasma displays, only to discard them because of the cost. What about power consumption? They use as much if not more than CRT monitors.

    What I’ve done …
What I’ve done there is a simple analysis, not clouded by bias. I’ve been as fair as possible there, and the result is, as I have said, CRT all the way.

Admittedly, CRTs do take some setting up, but if you’re willing to spend the 5-10 minutes required, you get a much nicer viewing experience, in my opinion. You’ve just got to put up with the size and weight. A reasonable trade-off, as far as I’m concerned.

    LCD

    Light +1
    Takes …

    LCD

    Light +1
    Takes less room up +1
    Less power consumption +1
Limited contrast ratio (LCD panel needs to block backlight, cannot be fully done) -1
    Single fixed native resolution. -1
Lower response time -1 (blur on high motion games/movies anyone? Don’t deny it, everyone has experienced that who has used an LCD)
Limited viewing angle -1 (colours can become very poor when not directly in front so thus:)
    Poorer colour reproduction -1
    Potential for dead pixels -1

A score of -3. Oh dear.

  13. ShokaLion Says:

    You like LCDs …
You like LCDs because CRTs are ‘bulky and annoying’. That’s a really good argument I must say. I think I’ll do my own analysis of the two.

    -CRT-
    Heavy -1
Take up lots of room -1
    High power consumption -1
Can lose brightness as they get old -1
    Very fast response time +1
    Multiple resolutions +1
Very high contrast ratio (black unpowered screen up to full brightness, potentially) +1
    Superior colour reproduction +1
    Very high viewing angle +1

Okay, final score of 2 Moving onto LCD!

    i like LCDs becuse …
i like LCDs becuse i like my eyes

id beleve that CRTs waste more power becuse they need to move a baris thinggy up and down if you take a pic of a CRT youl see that it dosent get the entire screen and depending on your graphics card your CRT will flash simetimse so fast you will not notesus them but you probally have well that can damage your eyes

and if im rond tell me

  15. rudyiking Says:

    CRT’s are better …
CRT’s are better because they can produce a truer black.

    yeah I have a CRT.. …
    yeah I have a CRT… I don’t like it, lol
the only good thing is the no shadow problem thing… but I agree with you I’d go with LCD.
CRT are only good for keeping permanently in one spot of your house until it breaks or something like that… or you sell it.
mostly because they’re no good for moving around.
